We can get so carried away with chasing happiness, joy and other highs of life, that we tend to forget that the lows are integral parts of life as well. Most issues arise when we refuse to give space to negative experiences. The society we live in reinforces our urge to avoid uncomfortable sensations as well.
Doctors can provide magic pills that can diminish almost any kind of feeling we might have. But should we really run from our own feelings?
Why not embrace life as it is?
Life is very much like a Chinese finger trap – the more we try to escape it, the more it will seize us, but if we relax into it, we will be free if its grasp. It seems very much like a universal truth: the more we try to force something, the less it will obey.
It’s an interesting trait of us humans that we want to control everything, including our own experiences. If something does not go the way we have imagined it, we fall into a dark hole, thinking that life is horrible. Is it though? Or should we just let go of our thoughts about how it all should be?
Pain is a part of life. It’s inevitable. But suffering is optional.
We cause our own suffering by clinging to our thoughts about how life should be. How our surroundings should be. How people should be. How we should be. But the truth is that everything should be exactly how it is.
I’m sure you know at least one person who always blames everything and everybody else for their problems, besides themselves. This attitude is in all of us, we just don’t necessarily realize it. Not accepting a feeling inside of us or another person’s decisions is the same thing. Because what do we do? We have thoughts in our minds about how we think we should be feeling, how we think others should act or how we think life should be going for us, but reality is different. And to that we say, reality is wrong! Because we obviously know how we should be feeling, how others should be acting or how life should be going for us, don’t we?
When we don’t accept our ignorance compared to life’s itself, we suffer. So, please accept life as it is. Your resistance is only causing you to suffer. Everything is as it should be. Accept others as they choose to be. You know no better than they do. And accept your own feelings. There is no such thing as “bad,” only in the mind. So step outside of yourself and allow yourself to smile.
“Enjoy your problems.” Read more…
